How to Stay Focused & Slay your End-of-Year Goals

As the end of the year is nearing and everyone is gearing up for the holidays, it’s easy to get side-tracked and lose focus on your business and all the big goals you set out at the beginning of the year. If you’re anything like me, your natural instincts had you ready to board up shop snuggled in your softest fleece garb, calling it a year at the first sign of temps below freezing.

However, even though as entrepreneurs we have the freedom and flexibility to create our own schedules, that doesn’t mean we should totally sign-off at the end of the year. You still run a business, and you are responsible for it’s success or failure. Seeing your goals through to the end of the year will give you that much more of a head start on the new year compared to those business owners who don’t.

So how can you keep your eyes on the prize and still enjoy the fun and festivities of the colder months?

1. Re-examine the goals that still need to be met.

Are these goals critical to the success and growth of your business? If so, you need to stay the course and really dig in to make them happen. Whether you have revenue goals, project goals or a goal for a certain # of clients, there is still time to make it happen but it’s not going to be by accident. If you have goals that aren’t as critical, reassess if you need to change or remove them from your brainspace altogether. Pro tip: Vanity metrics like followers and likes aren’t something you should be stressing about at this point, but rather anything else that is going to directly impact your bottom line.

02. Get intentional and plan your roadmap.

If your end-of-year goals are the target, what are the stepping stones or milestones that are going to get you there? Break down your goals into at least three actionable steps that you can put on your to-do list so you can really start moving that needle. Don’t get to the end of year and wonder why you didn’t meet your goals. Use a planner or bullet journal to help you stay on task. If you have a goal to get 1 new cliens by the end of the year, I should see new client meetings written on your calendar at least once a week to help make that a reality.

03. Communicate your availability.

It doesn’t have to be all work and no play – You deserve to enjoy this time of year with and that means taking some time off to be with friends, family or by yourself, if that’s what fills your cup. Map out specifically what days/times you will be unavailable to clients and colleagues. If you’re going to be out of the office, you should let your clients know what to expect and the earlier you can, the better. This can be as easy as shooting them an email at least 1-2 weeks before you plan to be out and setting up a vacation responder in your email client.
